Brent steps down

We’re in a bit of down time with the band as you can probably tell, and during this time Brent decided it was time he stepped down from the band. We wish him the best luck in whatever he decides to do and there are no bad feelings on either side. Here’s what he had to say:

“This just happened to be that part of my life where it was time to move on to the next chapter. Music had 100% of my attention for a very long time and it’s time to shift that attention towards other things. I can’t wait to see what the future holds for I Declare War while they continue to be one of the most punishing bands in metal”

Occasionally, sketchy promoters will promote shows with false line-ups to encourage ticket sales. We’ve had this happen to us in Seattle before where bands we were told we would open for weren’t actually on the show and we’ve had it the other way around where promoters say we’re playing when we’re really not. One was even in Australia. It’s just downright disrespectful to use our name to sell tickets; when we don’t play these shows that we’re supposedly playing, people blame us, when really it was the promoter who was just using our name. He gets to pass the blame off on us and he looks like the good guy. It’s just not cool.

Just recently we had a situation where someone falsely claimed that we were booked to play a show in Georgia in June. We had absolutely no knowledge of this, neither did our management or booking agent. In looking around to try to find where this originated, I came across this comment on a page. This is one of the most ignorant statements I have ever read regarding this band. We are not too good to play anywhere. I mean anywhere. We will play anywhere that anyone books us as long as they go through the proper channels to do it, e.g., contact with our management, contract with our booking agent, etc. Last year we played Jerry’s Pizza in Bakersfield, CA with Suicide Silence. Venues can’t get much smaller and crappier than that (and that’s not a dis on that show we played there at all. It ruled and we would gladly play there again…but if you’ve been there, you know it sucks). I could list plenty of small venues we’ve played in recently and likely will play again.

We want to play our music for as many people as possible, no matter where they are or what they have for a venue. Our fans got us to where we are and playing live for them is one of the most rewarding parts of being in a band. If you think for one second that we’re “too cool” or “too big” for you or your venue, think again. Each and every one of you has helped us live our dreams and achieve things we never could have imagined. We love hanging out at shows and meeting people. We’re always grateful to chat, take pictures, autograph things for you, whatever.

The point is, we just want everyone to know that this comment couldn’t be any further from the truth. We honestly did not know about this show and do not like being used to wrongfully promote shows. If you really do want to book us (legitimate, SERIOUS INQUIRIES ONLY), all of the contact info you need for our management and booking agent is located on the Info tab on our Facebook page.

Thanks for taking the time to read this. We love you guys, for real.

After much controversy, after many rejections from media outlets, after being told this video was too graphic… we were finally able to release the I Declare War music video for “March On.” It was directed by Ryan Kam and premiered yesterday on MetalInjection.net.
